TB case

This week we have Dr. Charles Steinberg helping us teach the Barefoot Drs. He is a world-renowned teaching physician on HIV/AIDS. He has worked in many different countries around the world and has seen first-hand many of the medical issues in developing countries. It has been a huge blessing having his expertise in the curriculum. He is also covering TB and skin issues.

We have one case from the Barefoot Dr students I have included below.

Ja Sen Sar- Case Presentation 2-1-12

Chronic cough:

A 45 yr old female with cough for one year. She sometimes coughs up mucus and blood. BP normal. The Barefoot Dr. had no meds to treat so he took her to the clinic. The clinic checked mucus and x-ray. Positive for TB on sputum test.

6 month treatment recommended. Now 3 months later and she is getting better. The Barefoot Dr is helping with “DOTS” (Directly observed treatment short). Any form of formal treatment program is a new development in Mynamar and we are excited that they now have access to these life saving treatments.

This case is very revealing in many ways. This is a good example of the situation they are living with. Our students are from many different areas all around Burma and some have even fewer medical resources than this case.

Thank you all for your interest and support of this program.

Rick
