Wow! What a day we had today! With Jon and Clark's time in Thailand winding down quickly now, it was nice to have such a productive, wonderful day today.
At KLC, the Barefoot Doctors students were thrilled to have a lesson on suturing wounds. Dr. Mark Royer was the main teacher, although he was assisted by all the other medical teachers here right now. After an hour or so of instruction, we brought in the pigs feet for the students to practice on. They were so excited to get their own suturing instruments, gloves, and suturing kits. They practiced the first part of the lesson until the lunch break, then wanted to go right back to practicing as soon as they had finished eating.
In the afternoon, Dr. Royer taught them a few other techniques he had mentioned in the first lecture, and they quickly picked up these new skills. In fact, Mark mentioned that these students picked up suturing faster than he and his fellow students did in college way back when.
One of the students was doing so well Mark couldn't believe he had never learned this before.
Though not quite as exciting as suturing pigs feet but....we did find time and resources to paint the exterior of the sewing room. Clark along with Chi Rote and Adong painted all of the trim and the walls. It really looks good now. We'll try to send pictures tomorrow. Clark explained to Chi Rote that he doesn't like painting and that he did a lot of painting at his own home before coming to Thailand and now it seems like he's been painting ever since he got here! Chi Rote's response was that God was just getting him ready for the trip to Thailand. I think God does have a sense of humor.
