Hi, Everyone!
Thanks for your prayers. Our Barefoot Doctor students arrived safely Sunday night at the Chiang Mai Bus Terminal. They spent a long day traveling from Mae Sai on the Burmese border, so they were ready to get to the KLC and have a good meal!
It was so good to meet these 21 young people! They are full of life and full of joy. They are very polite, and some of them can actually speak a little bit of English. We are having everything translated again this year by Timothy and Abraham, and they do a masterful job since they are both Barefoot Doctors themselves.
We had a few words of welcome last night and gave simple instructions for getting settled into their rooms for a good night's rest. Then we started this morning off with a student-led time of worship and then finished up their intake forms which they had begun in Yangon. We also took individual pictures and got everyone's weight in kilograms. We will weigh them again in March before they go home, and we expect several of them to put on a few more pounds because they don't always eat well in Burma.
Jon gave a lesson on the Barefoot Doctors theme from Luke 9:6, Preaching the Gospel and Healing the Sick. In the afternoon Jung gave the students the history and current ministry of the Barefoot Doctors ministry.
We also formed small groups of the students for support and encouragement. It was an experiment in unity because we put people together from different tribes and regions of Burma, but everyone got along wonderfully!
We just finished a great time of worship together led by the students, so I can say with confidence that we are going to have a great year this year!
Please tell other people about our blog! Jon
