A Second Day of CHE!

We had our second day of CHE training today with even more participation than the first day.
The students like being able to interact more and get involved in the skits and other starters for each lesson.
They have surprised me at how much some of them want to act and role play.  We had three guys do a great job today acting out a situation where they needed to cross the river to get medical help.  They had only had about 10 minutes yesterday to practice the skit, but they did a great job and the rest of the class was really into it.  I took a video of it, which is too big for the blog, but we are going to show it to our actors and everyone else tomorrow night when we give them a slide show of their training so far.  Here is a picture of another skit two of the men did to open one of the teaching segments.
David and Joanna had them work on an extended lesson today about the kinds of diseases and injuries they may encounter over a long stretch of time.  They worked in groups to imagine what they might encounter as Barefoot Doctors and then made a very big list together.  After that, they had to arrange them in categories of severity and then decide which ones were preventable.  I could see the wheels turning, and it was fun to see them interact.
After the last class today, everyone seemed to be anxious to get outside and do something fun.  As I was watching them have a good time, I realized that about 15 or more of the students were playing football (soccer), Takraw, badminton, volleyball, or throwing a frisbee.  It was nice to see them all having such a good time together just relaxing together. It was a welcome break from a good, long day of learning.
This evening we had another wonderful time of worship together led by the students.  They surprised me by starting the worship time by singing "Shout to the Lord" in English! That's the first all-English song I have heard our Barefoot Doctors sing together, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!  We have sung many songs and hymns that I know, but I have had to sing in English while nearly everyone else sang in Burmese.  I thank Henry and his small group for coming up with that one!  Then after worship Sarep Pung led the first of several computer classes to teach a number of our students the basics. We would really like to get them all trained to do email and send in pictures and reports of their work from time to time.  Most of them would have to travel to an internet cafe to do this, but the majority of them could do that once a month or so.  About 6 or 7 of them have email accounts already, but hardly any of them really know how to send an email on their own, especially with attachments.  We thank Sarep Pung for taking the time to do this.
I worked today on the Tribal Reports they shared orally on Friday, but I haven't finished typing them.
I should finish them in the morning, then I'll share a sample or two in tomorrow's post.
